Hi friends,

I am new to EAN & GTIN.

I have a requirement for EAN , ie. 18 digit alphanumeric external numbers . Number is like AAA000000000000001

How do I configure, can anybody explain step by step configuration??

Thanks.

Bodik

I can give you a quick explanation about EAN customizing.

  • The path for EAN customizing is: SPRO > Logistic -General > Material Master > Settings for Key fields > International Article Numbers (EANs).
  • Select "Define Number Ranges for EANs/UPCs. Here, you need to check if you have a range with 12 digits.

Why? The EAN number is with 13 digits, but, the last digit is calculated. If you want to see how this is calculated, you can check the following link:

http://www.gs1.org/barcodes/support/check_digit_calculator

  • If you have the range, then, go to "Define Attributes of EANs/UPCs" and check the code "UC" or the code that you will use for your EAN numbers. Then, check if this code has defined the external and internal number range and if it has a check-digit Algor.

If this is set, then, you can create your EAN number in the material master data - Basic data 1 with 13 digits without problem.

Here, I am explaining the EAN number that is numeric and not alphanumeric.

But you can also set alphanumeric number range without algorithm checked.

All you need to do is the checkmark the field that indicates your setting is for alphanumeric.

Entire EANs number range could be maximum 18 characters.
